Over the past five years, Watergardens has partnered with the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Sunshine Hospital, offering volunteer-run, gold coin gift-wrapping service which has contributed over $46,000 to maintaining the family room.
Hospital can be a scary place, especially for children. When little ones get sick, the experience becomes emotionally and physically stressful for everyone involved – and the patients need the support of their family more than ever. The Ronald McDonald Family Room at Sunshine Hospital provides a sanctuary for families within an otherwise stressful environment. It’s a home away from home; a temporary escape from the sterility of the wards, and a place for parents, siblings and relatives to spend valuable family time together.
Sunshine Hospital’s Family Room is managed by volunteers, with a lounge area, sleeping rooms, laundry, cooking facilities and more. By offering a reprieve from the often stifling experience of a hospital stay, it makes a difference in the lives of local families and their children when they need it most.
You can support the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Sunshine Hospital by visitng McDonalds Watergardens or each year over the Christmas season with charity Christmas gift wrapping.
All proceeds will now go to a bigger and better family room relocated within the soon-to-open $200 million Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital at Sunshine, set to open late 2019.
