What is Wear It Purple Day?

Wear It Purple is a student-led, not-for-profit organisation that strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering, and inclusive environments for youth in the LGBTIQA+ community. The initiative was established in 2010 in response to the distressing reports of young LGBTIQA+ people taking their own lives due to bullying and harassment. Wear It Purple aims to show people that no one should be discriminated against because of their gender and sexual identity. 

 

Write Your Story 

"Write your story" is our 2023 theme and was generated by our Youth Action Council, placing emphasis on the importance of personal expression and individuality for rainbow youth.

In a world where social media, the media and our education system often creates pressure to conform to norms, broken structures and certain standards, our theme hopes to encourage young people to embrace their unique perspectives and to share their stories with others.
